2017 was a year filled with excellent reads! I found some great new authors, enjoyed some fabulous YA reads, and got several classics read. It was a great year of reading, and while I didn’t hit my Reading Goal of 100 books (I’m blaming the Tubbs Fire!), I got close. Next year! For sure! (I feel like I say this every year….).
So without further ado, here are My Favorite Reads of 2017, in reverse order. (Note: These reads didn’t necessarily come out in 2017, I just happened to read them in 2017).

Royal Assassin & Assassin’s Quest by Robin Hobb
I really love Hobb’s writing, a fantasy writer who takes her time and is a master world-builder. I first fell in love with the Farseer world in 2016, and each book I read of Hobb’s I just fall deeper into this world. I’m just beginning my journey into this world, and I can’t wait to read more!

An eye opening account of our justice system, this is such an important read and one that I keep thinking about.

My Last Lament by James William Brown
A fascinating WWII story set in Greece. I immediately connected with the main character, and learned a lot by reading this book. Highly recommended historical fiction!

Animal Farm by George Orwell
An important classic that everyone should read. You will never look at farm animals the same way again!

The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See
I think this is my favorite Lisa See book, and I loved reading about the tea industry and really connected with the characters. A wonderful read!

The Red Rising Trilogy by Pierce Brown
What an emotional roller coaster ride this was! The characters are so well done, and while I thought this was pretty violent, I enjoyed the story and characters so much. I cannot wait for the release of Iron Gold in just a few weeks!

Anne’s House of Dreams by L.M. Montgomery
I think this is now my favorite of the Anne books. I loved the seaside setting, the complex characters, and the bits of humor interspersed. This is a book that I wanted to crawl inside and never leave!

And now for my Very Favorite Read of 2017!
Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
I loved this book so much. From the fantastical, magical setting, to the complicated characters, I just fell hard for this book. I was drawn in by that mysterious prologue and never looked back. I don’t know when book two will be released, but I’m looking forward to it!

And there you have it! Some historical fiction, some nonfiction, a few classics, some YA, a graphic novel, and some fantasy.
Have you read any of these books? Loved them? Hated them?
Ooh, good to see Anne’s House of Dreams in there! That was always my favourite of the series, apart from the original Anne of Green Gables. I loved old Captain Jim… 🙂

I’ll have to keep these for audiobook listening (about all I have time for right now!)

I want to read Just Mercy, but got busy and watched 13th on Netflix instead. It covers the same topic, but sure not as in-depth. I didn’t realize you were such a fantasy reader until this post came together. I usually only think of Alicia from Kernel of Nonsense when I think fantasy series!

Ooh, I just added 13th to my Netflix queue! Looks interesting. I do love fantasy! I think most of my fantasy reads from 2017 are on this list, so I didn’t read too much last year. There is so much fantasy I haven’t had a chance to read yet!

I bought 12 new Mercedes Lackey novels in 2017. *smh* And I already owned 3 books by her I hadn’t read! What am I doing!? Each mini-series is a trilogy, but there are a lot of books that make up the “world,” so I guess I had to have them?
