Since it’s almost summertime, here are some Great Summer Reads to help kick off the season!
Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty – This book just oozes summer! It is set on the Australian coast, and there’s the beach, and murder, and drama. There’s friendship, family, lies, and bombshell truths. I could not put this book down! You can read my review of Big Little Lies here.
The works of Sarah Addison Allen – Sarah Addison Allen’s books feel like summer. Many of her books talk about food, or are set in the south, and there’s a warmth that envelops you as you read her books. Sarah Addison Allen’s books are magical realism, and set in contemporary time, and they are sweet and enjoyable. My favorite of her books is The Peach Keeper, and you can read my review of Lost Lake here.
The Plantagenet and Tudor Novels by Philippa Gregory – These books are historical fiction set during the War of the Roses and the Tudor period. Telling the story from the perspective of different historical women (Elizabeth of York, Anne Boleyn, Katherine of Aragon, and Mary, Queen of Scots to name a few), these books are pulpy and informative. Some books are better than others, but you really don’t have to read them in any particular order, and each woman is unique and fascinating. Check out my review of The Taming of the Queen, which tells the riveting story of Henry VIII’s last wife, Kateryn Parr. I’m currently reading Gregory’s latest, Three Sisters, Three Queens which focuses on Margaret Tudor, who was Henry VIII’s eldest sister. There’s just something about summer that makes me want to read a Philippa Gregory novel!
The Crazy Rich Asians series by Kevin Kwan – Hilarious. Over-the-top scenery, characters, and wealth. This series is the definition of a summer read! One that you read while sunning on the beach or next to a pool. While drinking a fabulous cocktail (with an umbrella in it, of course). The latest book in the series, Rich People Problems, was just released! You can read my review of it here, and my review of book number two in the series, China Rich Girlfriend here.
The Penny Nichols series by C.A. Belmond – This little series is for those suffering from wanderlust! Each book travels around to beautiful, enchanting locations. There’s mystery and humor, while adding to one’s travel bucket list. A fun series!
The Glass Kitchen by Linda Francis Lee – I read this book awhile ago, and really loved it! I read it in one sitting, and really loved the fanciful, sweet loveliness of this book. It’s a great to read while sitting outside in your backyard on a hot evening while sipping a glass of wine.
So there are some recommendations if you’re looking for a Great Summer Read!

I’ve got one of the Sarah Addison Allen books on my #20booksofsummer. I got her book The Sugar Queen because someone suggested it might fit with my positive day fiction reads.

The Little French Guesthouse and its sequel are for me the best summer reads 🙂 I’m obviously biased as I’m French xD
I’m keeping Big Little Lies for this summer, I just cannot wait to read it!
